Tree Felling
Felling a Tree can be dangerous and safety precautions are of utmost importance. The average person that fells a tree will be doing it for a specific reason usually somewhere near his/her home ( assuming you are not a professional tree cutter). Before undertaking such a project check with your City and/or County government, the power company and your home owners insurance to see if there is a program to have the tree removed for you. If it is near a power line, or there is a possibility it will fall on your house or if it is in a public right of way you may find that one of these sources will remove it for you at no cost or at little cost. If not proceed with caution. |

Making this decision will depend on how large the tree is, if it is leaning toward a structure or property that will be damaged etc. Make sure you have the right equipment and safety gear. You will need goggles a helmet, steel toed boots, non slip gloves, possibly a ladder, some rope and a couple of helpers. After figuring out where you want the tree to drop you will need to determine where to notch the tree. You cut a notch out of the tree to make it fall in a certain direction. The notch should be cut on the side of the tree in the direction you want it to fall and in possible have the tree fall the way it is leaning this will allow gravity to do a lot of the work. If that is not possible you will need a lot of muscle to make it go in the right direction. Before cutting tie ropes high enough in the tree so that your helpers can pull the tree in the direction you want it to fall. There will be two cuts for the notch an upper and a lower that will angle toward each other and meet in the middle of the tree so that a wedge is cut out from the trunk. After the notch is removed a third cut is made from the back of the tree to the notch cutting through the trunk. After you cut a certain way through the tree will begin to lean in the direction you want it to fall. At this point have your helpers move back out of the way. Continue to cut through the trunk until the tree begins to fall then you step back and let the tree fall. After the tree hits the ground all that is left to do is cut up the tree and clean up the mess including digging out the stump or grind it down. You will most likely need the use of a truck and a place ( a land fill) to haul the logs away. Remember safety cannot be over emphasized make sure that everyone is well back from the tree before it falls. If it goes in the wrong direction having some property damage is far better than an injured person. Send flowers today with 1-800-FLORALS florist.
