Furniture - Outdoor styles can match your lifestyle and amount of use. Outdoor living requires selecting the right type of outdoor furniture for your family's activities. Before you go shopping, take a few minutes to ask yourself some important questions about your outdoor space and your family requirements.

1. Is your deck or patio covered, partially covered, or open?
2. How many people will use this area?
3. Will the furniture be used primarily by adults, or children?
4. How much do you want to spend on your outdoor furniture?
5. What type of use will your furniture need to support - casual, active, party, sport?

Question #1 - If your outdoor furniture is going to be sheltered, consider more expensive upholstered, fabric covered, and untreated wood furniture. If partially covered, or open, you want to look at weatherproof materials, treated woods, plastic or aluminum furniture.

Question #2 - The answer to this question will determine what type of furniture you will select. If just a few persons are usually the only ones to use the furniture, you can use a small table and chair set, plus one or two lounges. If many people will frequent the area, you need more seating. Benches are an option for multiple seating, larger table and chairs with umbrella (for outdoor areas), and maybe include a bar set for entertaining guests.

Question #3 - This deals with furniture size and weight. If you have use by children, consider purchasing lighter weight outdoor furniture, aluminum or plastic. Small children's chairs are very inexpensive and can be purchased at large discount stores. If heavier adults are using the area, purchase sturdy and heavier weight furniture and lounges.

Question #4 - If your area will have heavy use, remember this: purchase outdoor furniture to last a season, or a long time. Expensive furniture is usually more durable. If you use cheaper furniture, it is easily replaced if damaged. If you want more comfort, outdoor furniture with pads are more comfortable, but cost more, even for the less expensive sets found in discount stores. Quality upholstered furniture, and wood furniture with pads will be more expensive, but also last longer and look classier than inexpensive plastic.

Question #5 - If your use is occasional, or casual, you can use less expensive furniture. If there is heavy use, a better set will be a better value and last longer. For lots of parties, or users who are very sports minded, you need furniture that will withstand tougher use.
