Healthy Meal on my Desk
Like many people, I sit behind a desk all day long; that sometimes makes it difficult to make a healthy meal on my desk. It's too easy to grab some greasy fast food or to microwave a pizza or burrito. But if you want to lose weight and get healthy like me, you're going to have to think outside the box. In this article, I present some simple ideas for constructing quick, healthy meals at your desk.
If you want a really fast, healthy meal, there are several brands of frozen meals and "light" canned soups that are not only tasty, but also good for you. Better yet, combine your frozen meal or soup with a simple salad. You can make a salad at home every day, or just bring some washed crisp lettuce, mixed veggies, and dressing and make a new salad at work every day -- it's my favorite way of making a healthy meal on my desk.
Unfortunately, many packaged foods contain a lot of sodium and artificial ingredients. If you want to get away from that, why not bring a variety of simple, fresh ingredients? I like to make a healthy meal on my desk by combining sliced raw vegetables, whole-grain crackers, and low-fat meats and cheeses. You can also bring some whole-grain bread and delicious mustards and assemble a sandwich. Or, if you prefer, combine your fresh ingredients with the salad veggies you already have at work for a chef salad.
If you're looking for healthy breakfasts, they're even easier. Combine some whole-grain hot cereal with skim milk and sliced fresh fruits for a delicious early morning treat. Whole-grain cold cereal with bananas or berries is also one of my favorite ways of making a healthy meal on my desk.
